dvd
the spread medium of the future
Know, the technical development offers possibilities to use films
in a previously unknown way as medium to communicate. Therefore
filmzeit medien has consequently transferred the
used technique of the menu-based DVD in the motion picture distribution
to information films and has developed it to the point to put it
into use.
In practise several segments could be recorded at one DVD. In this
way it is possible to:
- attract differing target-groups
- inform about several themes in each case by independent segments
- present all sorts of products or services
A DVD looks like a classical CD but it is allowed to record substantial
higher amounts of data. Films can be recorded on DVD in a quality,
which exceeds by far the quality of videos tapes. By directly clicking
on a certain segment the viewers are in the position to choose that
segment which they are particularly interested in. A basic requirement
of the DVD is a menu, which allows this choice.
DVDs can be equipped with captions or commentaries, while watching
the DVD they can be inserted optionally. Also there is the possibility
to apply various language versions. This could be a foreign language
as well as a commentary.
Menu-based DVDs are easy to handle and can be played on every common
DVD-player as well on a computer with a DVD device. The navigation
is effected by the remote control or by mouse. This is the thing
that makes the DVD interesting as a modern media of information:
DVDs can be treated like flyers or brochures, because the costs
of copying them are comparatively low. In contrast to videos, which
have to be copied in a processing laboratory from a master tape,
the DVD is quasi “printed”. With high edition the cost
apiece lays definitely far below one EUR.
Additionally the cortical small media DVD is considerably distributed
better. It can be laid out on an information desk or can be attached
to a portfolio about information.
